Fireworks

Canada Day was a couple of weeks ago. Surprisingly, they don't do official Canada Day fireworks in San Diego. However, Chelsey and I used our SeaWorld passes, their summer fireworks show and our imaginations to get a Canada Day show. It was even better than the New Year's Eve show, since we could see this one. Earlier in the day Chelsey took me to Canada Steak Burger to celebrate. It's a little fast-food place near our house. We'd always wanted to go because of the name and so it seemed like a good time. It turns out to have a lot of Greek food, for some reason. It was pretty good though.
A few days later there were official fireworks for Independence Day. We were both pretty tired that day after I dragged us out of bed early in the morning to run a race (details later), so we didn't plan anything big for the evening. We just packed a picnic and went down to the edge of Balboa Park closest to our apartment where we figured we would have a view of the fireworks. And when they inadvertently set off all of the fireworks at the same time, we definitely saw it. We didn't understand what had happened at first; it wasn't until about half an hour later that people with smart phones started walking through the park, saying Twitter had confirmed the mishap. Some people were pretty disappointed, but I thought it was kind of neat. It was a really big boom, and while nearly everyone in the U.S. has fireworks on the Fourth of July, whose made the national news? San Diego's.
Also easing our disappointment was the fact that the city of Coronado runs their own fireworks show, independent of the San Diego one, and from our vantage point we could see their show too. So while we were waiting for word of what had happened to the Big Bay Boom, we still got to see fireworks over the bay - just a little further away.
