U.S. Olympic Training Center

There are three Olympic training centers in the U.S. They are big athletic complexes for Olympic sports athletes to train and sometimes live. There happens to be one in the southeast part of San Diego. In preparation for the Olympics, we went down to tour it. It's a nice big complex, with several softball fields, a couple of soccer fields and a field hockey field. It's the home base for the U.S. field hockey team. It's also home to the BMX bike team, so there were lots of BMX trails and courses set up, including a replica of the one used for the Beijing Olympics.
We were expecting a little more action, though; we went in the middle of the day but most of the venues were deserted. Maybe it was too close to the Games and everyone was on their way to London? There were a handful of people on the track, but it was too far away for us to try to recognize anyone. We also saw some women's rugby players, presumably getting ready for rugby's introduction as an Olympic sport in 2016.
There's also a gift shop where you can buy Team USA gear. Much to Chelsey's chagrin, however, there was no USA Waterpolo stuff, probably because the OTC is not the home base for those teams. (In fact, there is no pool at the training center at all, although there is a lake that is used for rowing). So we didn't buy anything.
