You might not expect us to see too many strange animals, given that we live in a residential part of a big city. Sure, there are rabbits in the park and lots of squirrels around (I like watching the squirrels run along the telephone wires), but we've had a few more surprising animals sightings in our neighbourhood. The first one Chelsey noticed was the pig. He lives in a house a few blocks over along with several dogs. When we walk to the library we always make sure to go by this house to see if the pig is out (he usually is).
The other day we were coming home from a run and came across a rooster. He had been in the bushes next to the sidewalk but we scared him and he jumped into the road. We spent a few minutes trying to get him back to the curb (the chicken shouldn't cross the road?) and figuring out where he came from. Eventually a guy in a truck drove by and said not to worry, the rooster would be fine. So we went home, because who knows more about roosters than some guy in a truck?
Finally last week we were coming home from a walk after dark when Chelsey spotted a baby skunk in someone's yard. It was kind of cute, although I didn't want to get too close. The skunk ran away and hid in the bushes near the front door of the house; I hope they didn't have any unpleasant surprises the next day.
